Renee’s story:

“I began to look into doula services around my 7th month of pregnancy, when the anxiety and fear of labor and delivery started to overwhelm me. I knew that I would like to have a natural childbirth, but I didn’t feel I possessed the strength or ability.

When I met with Rodin for the first time, I was very impressed with how organized, professional, and personable she was. I felt very comfortable discussing my concerns and desires regarding my pregnancy and upcoming birth. Rodin educated me on the birth process and diplomatically discussed various options and possible scenarios. After meeting with her a couple of times, I was much more calm and confident in myself, allowing me to approach our delivery day with joy and anticipation.

When the big day arrived, Rodin was very accommodating. She came to my home and spent time with me before heading to the hospital. My water had broken but contractions were not coming on naturally, and the nurse wanted to get me started on Pitocin. Knowing my desire for no interventions, Rodin acted as my advocate. She explained my options to me, and I was able to compromise with the nurse to hold off another 4 hours. Exactly 4 hours later, the nurse was back with Pitocin. Rodin had really prepared me, and I was able to accept the change in plans without disappointment.

Rodin was by my side being attentive to my needs from the first contraction to the last push. Her soft, soothing voice, positive feedback, gentle touch, and assistance finding the right laboring positions helped tremendously! After the birth of our son, she stayed until we were settled and came to check on us at home a couple weeks later. Rodin has everything it takes to be an exceptional doula: She is calm, caring, intelligent, well-informed, dependable, and compassionate. Should I be blessed with another child, I would hope to have her present again and I highly recommend her to any expecting families!!”

Victoria and Parker:

“Rodin attended my birth in July 2009, and she was such a huge part of me having a successful birth. As a single mom I had the support of family and friends however it still gave me tremendous peace of mind knowing Rodin was there for me every step of the way. I had taken natural birthing classes and since I didn’t have a husband to coach me, Rodin stepped right in.

Knowing that we were on the same page and that she knew all my concerns and wishes for the birth helped give me confidence going into it. The whole time Rodin was there to remind me of my relaxation exercises and remind me to breathe. She was a source of strength, reminding me of my goals of an unmedicated birth and my choices and rights as a patient when the medical staff kept pushing medication. In the end, although I had an extremely long labor lasting over 24 hours, Rodin stayed by my side the whole time. What Rodin did for me and my son Parker as our doula was more than I could ever describe and I couldn’t imagine having done it without her.”
